day three, no signal
Our story

Three days. No signal. Mom was right.

At 23, Max Ward went on a fishing trip with no reception. Day one was twitchy. By day three he felt like a person again. Back home, the phone was right there, and so was the scroll.

So he started Before The Internet, now the largest phone-free experiential brand in North America, with shows alongside Miley Cyrus, Charli XCX, Chris Stussy, Billboard, Warner Music Group and Heineken. As seen in The Globe and Mail and on CBC Radio. Every one of those shows works the same way: put a physical barrier between people and their phones. DisConnect is that barrier, shrunk to the size of a card.

"Build a life so good you don't want to be on your phone in the first place."

Max Ward
The barrier

Why a card, not another app.

Every screen time limit comes with an "ignore" button. At a Before The Internet show, there isn't one: phones go into a pouch and stay there. DisConnect brings that same physical barrier home. Tap the card and the apps you picked are blocked, with no timer to wait out and nothing to tap past. The only way back in is the card.

No card. No feed.

The card is $39, once. Nothing to charge, nothing to cancel.
